Prepping Up for the Africa Virtual Hackathon with BitKE and EOS Nairobi

EOs Training at the USIU - Africa

It is not everyday that you get to have a major hackathon coming to Africa. If preparing for one is not challenging enough, how about preparing for two?

This is exactly the situation currently as Africa prepares to hold the EOS Africa Virtual Hackathon next week that will also culminate into the December EOS Blockchain Grand Finale Hackathon.

In order to get the teams up to speed, EOS Nairobi, in partnership with BitKE, has been operating in hyper mode trying to train as many teams as it possibly can, both in Nairobi and outside.

Currently, the team has trained teams from Moringa School, United States International University – Africa, teams from Namibia, Togo, Botswana and Nigeria. The entire exercise requires availing experienced developers to take the teams through a setup process of EOSIO, writing smart contracts on the EOS blockchain protocol, and pitching their ideas.

Training on EOS Development at USIU

EOS Nairobi and BitKE have been able to achieve this, partly due to the training received from the EOS protocol core developer, Phil Mesnier, who visited the team to train them on how to develop and write Dapps on the EOS protocol.

It seems the training paid off as the team is hard at work getting other teams across the continent ready ahead of the October 15-18, 2018 Africa Virtual Hackathon which is limited to developers who reside in Africa.

The winning team will have an all-expense paid trip to attend and pitch in South Africa for the EOS Blockchain Hackathon Grand Finale.
