MPESA Global, the Kenyan-based mobile money service which recently launched globally, has been nominated for the prestigious Global Mobile Awards (GLOMOs), which are seen as ‘the Oscars’ of the mobile industry.

The nomination for the “Best Mobile Innovation for Commerce” category is a great achievement as these awards attract some very high-level services.

Speaking about the nomination, John Hoffman, CEO, GSMA Ltd, which organizes the Global Mobile Awards, said:

“The GLOMOs provide a world stage on which to celebrate the most inspirational and innovative developments across our industry. The awards attract a significant level of high-quality entries, so being nominated today is a great achievement. We wish everyone the very best of luck and we look forward to some exciting announcements at MWC19 Barcelona.”

MPESA Global, which launched only two months ago, allows one to send and receive money via international money transfer services like Western Union, World Remit, PayPal, and HomeSend.

Since the launch of the global brand, M-Pesa users outside Kenya have hit 13.4 million, with Lesotho (46.4 per cent), followed by DRC (40 per cent), and Mozambique at 29.8 per cent, having the fastest growth numbers, according to the recent statistics.
