The Blockchain Association of Kenya has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Lawyers Hub Kenya to collaborate on policy and training support for the blockchain and cryptocurrency industry in East Africa.

The memorandum was crafted and signed on the sidelines of the Africa Blockchain Conference 2019 held in Kampala on the 3rd and 4th of July 2019 by Linda Bonyo, CEO, Lawyers Hub, and Roselyne Gichira, Chairperson, Blockchain Association of Kenya. It was witnessed by Kwame Rugunda, Chairman, Blockchain Association of Uganda.

The Lawyers Hub will grant support the partnership with legal and policy capacity, while the Blockchain Association of Kenya will bring on board training and technical capacity.

In a statement, Linda Bonyo said:

“The Lawyers Hub is excited to pair up on this policy and technology journey with the Blockchain Association of Kenya who’s expansive network of professionals will be crucial for up-skilling our membership and enriching our interventions on tech policy as legal practitioners.

According to Roselyne Gichira:

“The MoU means a great deal for us. It is going to be much easier for us to come up with policy for the government because we will be working with lawyers who are already in the blockchain field who really understand the kind of policy we will be requiring.”

Roselyne mentioned that the partnership was part of the association’s two-year strategic plan on education, policy, and partnerships.

Lawyers Hub and the Blockchain Association of Kenya will collaborate to re-skill the practitioners on the mechanics of new technology, while the association will benefit from the legal expertise within the Lawyers Hub membership to draft and lobby legal frameworks and regulations that balance the interests of all stakeholders including the general public.

The Blockchain Association of Kenya and the Lawyers Hub will co-host monthly meetups at the first law tech hub in Africa operated by the Lawyers Hub in Nairobi to kickstart the process of preparing East Africa for the 4th Industrial Revolution.
