Internet services giant, Amazon, says it is exploring cryptocurrencies to understand how this could look like for its customers.
Last week, the company published a job opening for a “Digital Currency and Blockchain Project Lead.”
Amazon expects this new employee to lead efforts towards developing a digital currency for the company, together with establishing a wider strategy for blockchain technology, CBDCs, and crypto.

City AM put out a report saying that even though Jeff Bezos has now left the role of CEO, it has been his vision to have Amazon include cryptocurrencies in its payment network.
This isn’t just going through the motions to set up cryptocurrency payment solutions at some point in the future – this is a full-on, well-discussed, integral part of the future mechanism of how Amazon will work.

While Amazon has denied speculation about the eCommerce giant accepting crypto payments and possibly launching its own ‘Amazon Coin’ in the near future, the firm said it is definitely looking with interest in the space.
According to a spokesperson from Amazon:
“Notwithstanding our interest in the space, the speculation that has ensued around our specific plans for cryptocurrencies is not true,” said a spokesperson from Amazon.
“We remain focused on exploring what this could look like for customers shopping on Amazon.”

While the report by City A.M. definitely saw Bitcoin price go up by almost 15% after the news piece, it is interesting to see a company the size of Amazon starting to play in the space.
