LAUNCH | FIFA Set to Launch Inaugural NFT Collection for 2023 Club World Cup

An inaugural collection of 100 non-fungible tokens (NFTs) is scheduled to debut on December 15. These NFTs will provide individuals with the opportunity to secure tickets to the FIFA World Cup 2026 final.

FIFA, the international governing body for soccer competitions, is set to launch its own non-fungible token (NFT) collection in partnership with blockchain firm, Modex, ahead of the 2023 Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia.

According to an article published on FIFA’s website, an inaugural collection of 100 non-fungible tokens (NFTs) is scheduled to debut on December 15. These NFTs will provide individuals with the opportunity to secure tickets to the FIFA World Cup 2026 final.

In addition, a total of 900 other digital collectibles will be issued on the Polygon network and OpenSea in December 2023, comprising memorable moments from the ongoing tournament and digital versions of memorabilia.

The NFTs will be accessible on FIFA’s dedicated platform, FIFA+ Collect. Launched in September 2022, this NFT platform is powered by Algorand.

“We are excited to embark on this transformative journey with Modex and take the FIFA+ Collect platform to new heights. Since launching, the platform has been immensely popular worldwide and fans from all countries now have the opportunity to own a piece of footballing history,” FIFA Chief Business Officer, Romy Gai, said.

“These new launches, both this year [2023] and beyond, will provide football fans with a unique and innovative way to connect with the sport, while also contributing to the growth of the digital collectibles market.”

The FIFA+ Collect platform has conducted 11 NFT drops since its launch, resulting in the minting of 909,255 digital collectibles held by 16,448 holders. The platform has witnessed a cumulative trading volume of $2.4 million across primary and secondary NFT markets.

“Digital collectibles increase the ways in which fans can interact with their favorite players, teams, and the game they love, and we’re honored to support FIFA in realizing this goal,” commented Francesco Abbate, CEO of Modex.

The FIFA Club World Cup, set to commence in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on December 12 2023, will feature seven of the world’s top football teams, including Egypt’s Al Ahly to represent Africa.
