Gozem, a leading super app in Francophone Africa, has raised $30 million in Series B funding to support its growth across West and Central Africa.
The funding round, which includes both equity and debt, was led by SAS Shipping Agencies Services Sàrl (a subsidiary of MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company SA) and Al Mada Ventures.
This strategic investment combines Gozem’s cutting-edge technology platform with the expertise and resources of key leaders in logistics and financial services. The funds will be used to strengthen Gozem’s current offerings, enter new markets, and fast-track the launch of its digital bank, Gozem Money.
Founded in 2018 as a moto-taxi service, Gozem has quickly grown into a full-featured Super App, offering a variety of services, including:
- Ride-hailing (moto, tricycle, and car)
- Food and grocery delivery
- Digital ticketing
- Vehicle financing
- Digital banking
Currently, the company has nearly 10,000 registered drivers, and more than a million users have used its platform so far. It says its monthly users number in the hundreds of thousands.
By integrating these services, Gozem meets the diverse needs of users in Francophone Africa, providing seamless access to essential services within a single platform.
“Gozem is an exceptional company that aligns perfectly with MSC Group’s dedication to Africa and its focus on developing innovative mobility and logistics solutions to boost trade,” said Diego Aponte, MSC Group President.
With this fresh funding, Gozem aims to extend its reach across West and Central Africa, introducing its super app to new markets and underserved communities. Additionally, the company will invest in upgrading its transport services by financing more brand-new vehicles for taxi drivers, enhancing the overall user experience.
Gozem is placing a strong emphasis on launching its digital bank, Gozem Money, to offer accessible and affordable financial services to individuals and businesses in Francophone Africa, where many remain unbanked or underbanked. While established mobile money solutions like Orange Money and Wave dominate the market, Gozem Money seeks to stand out through seamless integration within its super app ecosystem.
Gozem Money will capitalize on the company’s existing user base and technology infrastructure to deliver a seamless, integrated banking experience. Its key features include:
- Mobile payments and money transfers
- Savings and investment products
- Access to credit and loans
“As we continue to observe the evolution of the population’s demand towards technology-enabled mobility services, Gozem stands out with its inclusive, reliable, and easy-to-use Super App model,” said Omar Laalej, Managing Director at Al Mada Ventures.
The investment from SAS Shipping Agencies Services and Al Mada Ventures provides not only financial support but also valuable expertise and strategic partnerships. Gozem will benefit from the extensive networks and industry experience of these investors, enabling faster growth and an expanded range of services.
“We are thrilled to welcome MSC Group and Al Mada Ventures as strategic investors,” said Gregory Costamagna, Co-Founder of Gozem.
“Their extensive experience in African logistics and financial services will be invaluable in scaling our Super App and expanding into new markets.”
