The Ethereum Foundation has released the list of exceptional projects and community events that received support in Q2 2024.
The list includes projects helping to foster the Ethereum technology and ecosystem across the world, and Africa saw 4 such projects awarded.
Below are the 4 African projects that got funded by the Ethereum Foundation in Q2 2024:
1.) muAccra
This was a 2-week developer gathering in Accra, Ghana between June 9 and June 22 2024. According to the organizers, 99 residents drawn from across the continent and serving different roles were able to co-live together in the African city helping to foster a collective.
They also conducted a week-long Starknet bootcamp and a week-long hackathon. 20 projects were built, winning a total prize pool of $27,000.
2.) Code Africa Hackathon
The hackathon in Nairobi, Kenya encouraged participants to build projects that could lead to positive real-world impact and explore themes such as zero knowledge (ZK), account abstraction, and privacy.
The hackathon included a developer’s conference billed as a central hub where technical subjects are discussed, offering a deep dive for ambitious developers, visionary founders, product designers, investors, VCs, and accelerators.
3.) EthAccra
This was a hackathon held between August 29 – 31 2024 in Accra, Ghana. It was also accompanied by workshops in several universities to generate interest in Ethereum.
4.) Web3 Lagos Conference
This is an upcoming conference and hackathon run in Lagos, Nigeria delving into topics such as Ethereum core protocol development, open-source contribution, and building for the continent.
According to the organizers, Web3 Lagos Conference is a 3-day physical and virtual event comprising of a hackathon, workshops, networking, career fair, panel session, talks etc.
The event focuses on onboarding and supporting the growth of individual new to the concept of blockchain and decentralisation, helping technical and non-technical blockchain native persons realize the endless possibilities and opportunities of the Blockchain & Ethereum ecosystem.
