Incoming First Lady, Melania Trump, launched a cryptocurrency on the eve of her husband’s inauguration as the President of the United States.
“The Official Melania Meme is live! You can buy $MELANIA now,” she shared on the social platform X on Sunday. The website for the “Official Melania Meme” describes it as a crypto asset built and tracked on the Solana blockchain.
According to CoinGecko, the highest price paid for Melania Meme (MELANIA) is $13.04, which was recorded on Jan 20, 2025 (about 3 hours ago). Comparatively, the current price is 38.62% lower than the all-time high price.
Market capitalization of Melania Meme (MELANIA) is $1,195,216,990 and is ranked #104 on CoinGecko today.
The announcement follows President-elect Donald Trump’s launch of the $TRUMP cryptocurrency just a day earlier. Both cryptocurrencies have experienced price increases but remain subject to volatile trading.
$TRUMP debuted with a significant surge, reaching a market value of $14 billion and securing a spot among the top 20 cryptocurrencies by market cap. However, the initial excitement proved short-lived.
The launch of Melania’s coin had an immediate and significant impact on Trump’s memecoin. Within minutes of the announcement, Trump’s coin lost nearly 40% of its value. Many traders, including early investors in the Trump token, quickly sold off their holdings to invest in the newly launched $MELANIA coin.
According to analysts, $TRUMP experienced a dramatic $7.5 billion drop in market value within just 10 minutes of $MELANIA debut.
According to CoinGecko, the highest price paid for Official Trump ($TRUMP) is $73.43, which was recorded on Jan 19, 2025 (about 17 hours ago). Comparatively, the current price is 30.68% lower than the all-time high price.
Market capitalization of Official Trump ($TRUMP) is $10,651,145,211 and is ranked #21 on CoinGecko today.
Disclaimers on the websites for both the $TRUMP and $MELANIA coins clarify that they are ‘not intended to be, or the subject of,’ an investment opportunity or a security.
Despite previously referring to cryptocurrency as a ‘scam,’ Trump became the first presidential candidate during the 2024 election campaign to accept digital assets as donations.
On the campaign trail, Trump also pledged to establish a strategic Bitcoin stockpile and appoint financial regulators with a more favorable outlook on digital assets, fueling expectations that he might roll back regulations on the crypto industry.
