Binance, the largest crypto exchange in Nigeria and Africa, has restricted access to its free token airdrops in Nigeria, according to local reports.
Locals attempting to access Binance Web3 Quest, a platform for earning crypto giveaways, were greeted with a message stating that the service was no longer available.
Binance Web3 quests let users earn free crypto giveaways by completing simple social tasks, like following a project’s X account or referring friends.
Participants could earn as much as $50 per day by completing the tasks.
Nnadi, a student at the University of Lagos, shared that participating in airdrop grinding on Binance Web3 quests was a popular activity among young, crypto-savvy Nigerians.
“It is a pity that for a crypto-loving country like Nigeria, our access to the industry is becoming severely limited as the days go by. Imagine being able to earn such an amount of money in a county where most people are living below the poverty line and now to have that opportunity taken away, it is frustrating,” said Chike Nnadi, a Nigerian crypto trader based in Lagos.
In early 2024, Binance restricted Nigerians from accessing its peer-to-peer trading platform and removed a digital version of the naira, the country’s fiat currency, under pressure from local authorities who accused it of interfering with the exchange rate.
The saga continued in 2025 as the Nigerian government filed a lawsuit against Binance, demanding $79.5 billion in compensation for ‘economic losses’ and $2 billion in unpaid taxes.
This comes amid $150 million bribery counter–accusations by Tigran Gambaryan, Binance’s Head of Financial Crime Compliance who was released from his 9-month detention in Nigeria in October 2024.
The $81.5 billion case against Binance is now scheduled for April 11 2025.
