Virunga National Park in Congo is now accepting Bitcoin, and other cryptocurrencies in an effort to fulfil its conservation and sustainable development goals.
Virunga was created in 1925 and is among the first protected areas in Africa. The park is popular for its endemic flora and fauna, particularly the Eastern Gorilla and the Golden Monkey.

According to the Virunga National Park website, the following cryptocurrencies are currently acceptable for donations:

- Dai ($DAI)

- ChainLink ($CHAIN)

- The Graph ($GRT)
- Gemini Dollar ($GUSD)
- Storj ($STORJ)

According to the Virunga website:

Crypto-donations deliver on both these fronts.
As well as being native to digital landscapes, many people invested in cryptocurrencies exhibit an affinity for the natural world and a strong sense of social justice. By accepting crypto-donations, we make it easier for tech-minded, eco-conscious individuals to directly donate cryptocurrency to Virunga in a tax- efficient way.
Crypto-donations are used in much the same way as conventional donations. They help to conserve mountain gorillas and the Park’s rich-biodiversity, support sustainable development projects, such as the building of renewable energy sources, and ensure the continued presence of Rangers, the guardians of the Park’s long- term survival.”
