CICs allow people to give or trake credit without having to hold Kenyan Shillings. Sarafu is a classic example of a CIC in action across low-income neighborhoods in Kenya.

In Kisauni, a section of Mombasa, another coastal town in Kenya, over 6, 500 people trade with Sarafu, an initiative that is also supported by the Kenya Red Cross, the largest humanitarian organization in Kenya
