Cardano has announced a partnership with Ethiopia’s Ministry of Education to create a blockchain-based national ID and attainment recording system.
The partnership will roll out to 5 million students becoming the world’s largest blockchain deployment, according to Cardano.

In a statement, Cardano said:
“This partnership is at the heart of Ethiopia’s Digital Transformation Strategy. IOHK has long recognized how developing world countries could uniquely benefit from blockchain, and this deployment is key in our vision for Africa.”

The system will be deployed via the IOHK’s Atala PRISM ID that will enable authorities to create a tamper-proof record of educational performance for five million students, 3,500 schools and 750,000 teachers to pinpoint the locations and causes of educational under-achievement while targeting educational resources effectively.
In addition to the above, IOHK, the parent company of Cardano, is already in talks with the Ethiopian government to further expand blockchain use case in the following areas:
- National student and teacher ID system
- A digital transport ticketing system
- A track-and-trace supply chain for transport and healthcare
Cardano hopes to share more about the partnership during its upcoming and most-anticipated Cardano Africa Special 2021 event scheduled for April 29, 2021.
