We caught up with Ian Balina once again at the Africa Blockchain Conference 2019 in Kampala, Uganda, to discuss the industry growth in Africa, the opportunities in blockchain, and the Facebook Libra Project.
Ian Balina is a well-known and respected figure in the global crypto and blockchain investment space having developed the Token Metrics System to evaluate and invest in crypto and blockchain projects.
It was interesting to discuss the opportunities in the space with Ian and his thoughts on Africa, and why events like the Africa Blockchain Conference are key to evangelizing and educating entrepreneurs, developers, and others about the technology.
.@DiaryofaMadeMan , founder of .@100xadvisors will join other incredible speakers at the #AfricaBlockchainUG19 this July to explore how we are preparing Africa for the 4IR!

“This is where everything starts. For me, yes, I was doing everything, but it wasn’t until I went to my first conference, and met real people in person, building amazing things and I said, ‘you know what, this is real.’ It’s one thing to read something online. but when you meet these people face to face, you’re like, ‘these people are not crazy, these people are smart.'”
Other things we discussed during the interview include:
- Why Blockchain Conferences are key to Blockchain adoption
- Is Decentralization practical or idealistic
- The Facebook Libra Project
