Uber Launches Uber Cash Digital Wallet for Sub-Saharan Africa

Uber has launched the Uber Cash app allowing users in 7 African countries to use different payment methods for on its digital wallet for its services.

The new service will enable riders prepay for upcoming trips while giving them more control on payments and accounts for budgeting purposes.

The service will be available in the following African countries:

  • Ghana
  • Kenya
  • Ivory Coast
  • Nigeria
  • South Africa
  • Tanzania
  • Uganda

Riders in the above countries will be able to top up their accounts via:

  • Debit / credit card
  • M-PESA / Airtel
  • PayPal
  • Bank Transfer
  • Barter for payment of use

Uber Cash allows you to add funds using almost any payment method available in the above countries.

Besides adding funds yourself, you can also receive Uber Cash through the Uber Rewards program, customer support, gift cards, and more.

The new service is a collaboration between Uber and Flutterwave, the Pan-African payment processing gateway network that enables clients to tap its APIs for different payment applications.

Uber is currently operational in 16 cities across Sub-Saharan Africa. In Kenya, the app is available in Nairobi and Mombasa.
