Airtel Africa Partners with worldRemit to Offer Instant Mobile Money Transfers Across Africa

Airtel Africa has partnered with WorldRemit to enable instant money transfers via mobile across various African countries.

The partnership also opens up an opportunity for Airtel Money users to make payments via mobile money both locally and internationally.

Currently, Airtel Africa operates in 14 countries in Africa, primarily in East, West, and Central Africa.

Airtel is the third mobile operator in the world. On the other hand, WorldRemit enables its users to send money online from 50 countries to over 150 countries worldwide.

The partnership will see users of Airtel money across seven African countries receive and send money instantly. These countries currently include:

  • Republic of Congo
  • Kenya
  • Malawi
  • Niger
  • Tanzania
  • Uganda
  • Zambia

Here are some of the current use cases for Airtel Money in Africa:

  • Send and receive money
  • Make utility payments
  • Merchant payment services
  • Save money on mobile wallets
  • Airtime purchases
  • Access to a range of mobile financial products

Speaking about the new partnership, Raghunath Mandava, CEO, Airtel Africa, said:

Mobile money has been instrumental in bringing financial inclusion across the African continent. The growth of P2P crypto platforms on the continent has also been largely enabled by mobile money services and this partnership is no doubt going to help accelerate this trend.
