Bitcoin, which crossed the $1 trillion market cap in 2021, is now the fastest asset in history to reach a $1 trillion valuation.
While companies take decades to gain such valuations, bitcoin took just 12 years to reach this monumental milestone.
To put things in perspective, here is a breakdown of how long it took the largest companies globally to hit the $1 trillion market cap valuation:
- Microsoft – 44 years
- Apple – 42 years
- Amazon – 24 years
- Google – 21 years
- Bitcoin – 12 years
At the start of 2021, bitcoin had a modest market cap of only $500 billion and has more than doubled in Q1, 2021 alone to the current $1.2 trillion.
Some of the head milestones and headlines that have contributed to this massive growth include:
- Institutional investment into bitcoin
- Bitcoin ETFs ready to go
- High profile CEOs show interest in bitcoin
The new milestone now puts the total market cap of the crypto industry ($2.23T) to almost the same valuation as Apple ($2.25T), the second-largest company in the world after Saudi Aramco, the oil giant.
