Top Five Most Googled Cryptocurrencies in 2022

The market valuation of all the cryptocurrencies combined has dropped 70% year-to-date (YTD) to nearly $770 billion, signifying massive capitulations by traders and investors alike.

Cryptocurrencies have suffered immensely in 2022 as prices dropped massively from the All-Time Highs that the industry experienced in late 2021.

The drop in prices has been exacerbated by the implosions of several crypto platforms, not least former industry leader, FTX. Other major implosions include Terra, Celsius Network, and others.

The market valuation of all the cryptocurrencies combined has dropped 70% year-to-date (YTD) to nearly $770 billion, signifying massive capitulations by traders and investors alike.

As such, there was a drop in crypto interest on Google, the world’s most popular search engine.

Still, the top 5 tokens received millions of searches on average every month, according to research by personal finance site, DollarGeek.

Most Googled Cryptocurrencies (DollarGeek)

1.) Bitcoin – Over 28.4M Searches

Bitcoin (BTC), the world’s largest and most popular cryptocurrency, continues to reign supreme as the most Googled cryptocurrency in 2022, according to research by personal finance site, Dollargeek.

With 28.41 million monthly searches, Bitcoin is the clear leader in search engine queries, far outpacing its closest competitors.

2.) DogeCoin – Over 5.8M Searches

Dogecoin has also become one of the most popular meme-based cryptocurrencies in 2022, with over 5.8 million monthly searches. Though Dogecoin has faced criticism for its lack of utility, its recent surge in price and growing popularity as a meme-currency has led to a surge in search engine queries.

3.) Shiba Inu – Over 4.4M Searches

Shiba Inu (SHIB) has also become a popular cryptocurrency with over 4.4 million monthly searches in 2022.

Shiba Inu is a meme-based cryptocurrency inspired by the Dogecoin project and is often viewed as a competitor to Dogecoin. Shiba Inu has seen a surge in search engine queries thanks to its growing popularity among crypto enthusiasts and its potential to become a major player in the crypto market.

4.) Ethereum – Over 3.8M Searches

Ethereum, the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, has also seen an uptick in search engine queries this year, becoming the most searched altcoin in 2022.

With over 3.8 million monthly searches, Ethereum has gained immense popularity as a decentralized platform for smart contracts and digital assets.

The Ethereum Network, which shifted to a Proof of Stake system in 2022, has however received criticism, with reports that the new system makes Ethereum less decentralized.

5.) Cardano – Over 1.4M Searches

Cardano rounds off the top 5 most Googled cryptocurrencies in 2022 coming in with an average 1.4 million monthly searches.

The Cardano trend picked up momentum specifically in January 2022 when $ADA outperformed Bitcoin and Ether in price increase. Later, however, searches have been declining despite the Vasil hard fork in September 2022 failing to produce a spike in interest.

As cryptocurrencies continue to grow and evolve into 2023, it’ll be interesting to see which ones become the most searched.
