[WATCH] The World of Virtual Fashion and Why People are Buying Virtual Clothes

Post Contributed by Metagrapher

Let’s talk about virtual fashion, shall we?

There’s a big opportunity for fashion designers in the metaverse. If you have an eye for fashion, you might want to establish a brand in the metaverse.

Right now, blockchain virtual worlds like Decentraland, Somnium Space, and the Sandbox enable you to create and sell wearables/virtual fashion as NFTs in the micro-economies that run on crypto.

Just recently, Nike aped into the NFT space after buying RTKFT Studios, a blockchain-based fashion brand that makes sneakers for the metaverse.

Rumors have it that in the not-too-distant future we’ll be spending most of our time inside virtual, immersive 3D environments that have the exact experience as the physical world just that now we won’t be limited by physical constraints.

If you have watched Ready Player One, you get the idea vividly.

Well, if you have paid attention to Mark Zuckerberg talking about it, you know how obsessed he is about pushing the idea by all means. Meta, the umbrella company of Facebook, has already committed to spending $10 Billion every year to make it happen. So if we are going to spend most of our time in the metaverse, it’s a no-brainer that what we enjoy doing and indulging in the current physical world has to be replicated virtually. Of course, status and power will play by the same rules.

The most important status symbol is what you wear, don’t expect the virtual world to be any different – people really care what their online replicas look like.

Digital fashion will be a major and important part of the virtual economy as players hop from one virtual event to the next, and of course, they have to drip.

The idea of the metaverse however has been around for a while – we have been attending virtual events, and trading virtual fashion before Facebook rebranded to Meta. But Facebook really helped push the idea to the masses and will be releasing the Horizon virtual world beta version later in 2022, so I expect more players, creators, and buyers alike to come in.

As the idea of a virtual world grows and more big-tech players come in, the virtual world ecosystem will only get better. The virtual economy is only going upwards from here and virtual fashion will be a big part of it. It’s time you did that simple Google Search and educate yourselves.

As the idea of virtual fashion gains more traction, we’ll start seeing more big fashion brands jump onto the bandwagon and organize fashion-themed virtual events, like runways, to market their brands reach a wider audiences.

Imagine being able to experience your favorite brand in the metaverse virtually before you buy?

Yeah, sounds great I know.

If it looks like a cow, has four legs, and moos like a cow, it’s most probably a cow!

Your creativity is your only limit in the metaverse.
