These workshops also precede the creation of working groups that are key to the creation and development of adoption strategies and relevant regulations.
The stakeholder meeting is expected to attract key blockchain and tech players in the Ugandan and African space who are expected to help shape the direction of regulation and adoption in Uganda on these emerging technologies.
These workshops also provide a glimpse into the direction of regulation and how we can expect the government to regulate such emerging technologies based on proposed recommendations from such discussions.
African countries that have previously had such discussions and workshops which culminated in draft regulations or in the process of getting ratified include:
- Kenya – Kenya Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence Taskforce
- Nigeria – Nigeria National Blockchain Adoption Strategy
- South Africa – Intergovernmental Fintech Working Group
