Africa’s Meme Coin, Wakanda Inu, Commissions Borehole Water in Rural Nigeria

Wakanda Inu ($WKD), the first truly successful African memecoin project and cryptocurrency token held by over 113,000 people, the highest number of holders in any African Cryptocurrency project, is living up to its original ethos.

The token is classified as a meme coin made to create wealth for Africans.

Meme coins are crypto tokens inspired by social media trends, jokes, or movies. However, Wakanda Inu’s wealth creation can be seen to be geared towards charitable intentions, a cause epitomized by its latest social welfare project in Nigeria.

In April 2022, the Wakanda Inu team commissioned a water project in Kwara State of Nigeria, which goes to addressing the problem of unsafe water and sanitation across the continent.

According to the crypto meme project, women and children in various locations across the continent are most at risk from the problem. This is endorsed by a United Nations Children’s Fund report which found that 90% of the over 100,000 children under five who die of water-borne diseases annually in Nigeria die from unsafe water and sanitation.

Women, on their part, are usually tasked with fetching the water from water sources that are not close to their homes, a situation that exposes them to violence and other dangers.

With these challenges in mind, the team at Wakanda Inu identified Biala community which has had its share of unsafe water problems because no government, organization, or individuals had come to their aid.

“Everyone in this community had lost trust and given up hope of obtaining safe water after many organisations and individuals promised them water with no follow-through.”

The villagers in the community were found to spend hours walking more than 4 kilometres to drink out of a dirty stream and fetch water for their household. If that was not enough, the water was contaminated and barely sufficient for the community, part of a slew of many challenges.

By drilling a borehole where solar-power can be used to draw water, the team at Wakanda Inu are not only helping to provide water, but are also making it easy to fetch water.

Following this initiative, the small community in Biala can now derive several benefits including:

  • Small and medium-sized farmers can boost their crops
  • The community can increase production rates
  • Improved community nutrition
  • Clean and safe water for cleaning, cooking, and drinking

In November 2021, the African born community meme project made headlines after raising over 2, 000 BNB (approx. $1.2 million) following a post on BitKE which went viral in just 24 hrs.

The project was originally listed for public sale on PinkSale for all whitelisted wallets before getting listed on PanCakeSwap, the largest decentralized exchange on the Binance Smart Chain (BSC).

Wakanda Inu is currently ranked at #3691 on CoinMarketCap with a market capitalization of $976,056.
