There is a huge opportunity for digital banking in Kenya and across the continent, according to Jeremy Awori, CEO, Barclays Kenya.
“Digital payments in banks are only at 53 percent for some African countries. At the African level, its only at 38 percent […] Using digital banking services reduces as you go down the social economic strata.” Says Awori.
While discussing mobile and digital banking on a panel at Seamless East Africa event, the Awori revealed that there are still huge gaps when it comes to offering digital payments at the bank level.
Awori also touched on the mobile money taxes that he feels are going to de-incentivize the use of electronic payments.
