Celo, a mobile-first blockchain focused on emerging markets, continues to expand across emerging markets of Africa with Uganda becoming one of its key markets when it comes to adoption.
The recent announcement of a $100 million program to bring ‘DeFi to the People’ in form of educational grants and incentives on top of the platform continues to attract interest within this growing ecosystem.

Spe Taxi Cab
Established in 2015, Spe Taxi Cab offers professional taxi and cab services in Kampala, Uganda and has now become the go-to service for airport transfers.
The service allows you to book your airport transfer in advance via e-mail, WhatsApp, call, or from the website. The booking is confirmed and a driver is assigned for the pickup. The service keeps you informed by sending details of your transfer driver to avoid any inconveniences until pickup time.
Spe Taxi Cab accepts bitcoin, Celo Dollar ($cUSD), and other cryptocurrencies for payment in order to offer a seamless and enjoyable airport transfer experience within Uganda.
Spe Taxi Cab is also a member of the Celo Alliance for Prosperity, a mission-aligned network of organizations fostering social impact and financial inclusion through the use of blockchain technology.
Bit2Big offers a crypto Over-The-Counter (OTC) desk and consultancy services in Uganda helping bring more awareness and shape the crypto landscape in the country.
As part of the mission-aligned Celo Alliance for Prosperity, Bit2Big is also helping drive the Celo mission of building a financial system that creates the conditions for prosperity to become a reality.
Kanzu Code is a Ugandan-based digital solutions provider and a member of the Celo Allinace for Prosperity.
Kanzu Code’s flagship product, Kanzu Banking, simplifies the process of managing financial portfolio of:
- Investment clubs
- Savings and Credit Cooperatives (SACCOs)
- Village Loans and Savings Associations (VSLAs)
- Micro-Finance Institutions (MFIs)
A recipient of the Celo Foundation grant, Kanzu Code has integrated the Celo Wallet onto its core banking web applications allow its customers to not only save in Ugandan Shillings (UGX) but also save in Celo Dollars ($cUSD), a stablecoin pegged 1-on-1 to the US Dollar.
CryptoSavannah is a technology company focused on developing blockchain solutions in Uganda and across Africa.
Since 2017, the company has worked and advised governments and the private sector build practical solutions using blockchain technology.
The company has also helped blockchain and crypto companies invest in Africa.
CryptoSavannah’s Co-Founder, Noah Balesaanvu was also part of the country’s Financial Intelligence Authority consultants in helping amend regulations around virtual asets and virtual assets service providers (VASPs) which helped enable crypto exchanges to set up operations in Uganda under a more compliant regulatory regime.
CryptoSavannah is part of the Celo Foundation and the Celo Alliance for Prosperity helping push for blockchain adopton and the adoption of the Celo blockchain ecosystem.
Murcom is a software technology company heardquartered in Kampala, Uganda specializing in software development, fintech, digital KYC, and financial inclusion.
Murcom also runs the Muda exchange and OTC desk available in East Africa and across 10 African markets.
Muda also runs an NFT marketplace and currently working with the Uganda National Museum to mint NFT collections of the best artefacts from the museum.
A recipient of the Celo Foundation grant, Muda is building a liquidity rail for the Celo Dollar ($cUSD) within its exchange and is also part of the Cello Alliance for Prosperity.
